Although I enjoyed Barack Obama's recent web ad "Embrace" (the one with lots of hugging between Bush and McCain), I still think the campaign needs to be a little harsher. The idea of a continuation of Bush policies into a third term should be scary, not playful. Furthermore, I think it's important to emphasize that McCain has been "doubling down" on Bush's policies at the same time the rest of the nation (and world) has been abandoning them.

I created this ad to illustrate the kind of concept I'd like to see Obama's team develop.

Again, not claiming to match the quality of Obama's ad team here. :) But I think that it's a good message, and would work well on the disenfranchised former Bush supporters (or at least people who had neutral feelings about him early on), who feel like they know better know, and wouldn't make that mistake again. If the American people can "get it" about Bush, why can't McCain?

The approval of aspartame was the most contested in FDA history. The approval of the artificial sweetener was not based on scientific evidence but on political (and financial) interests.

Aspartame was 'discovered' in 1965 by Searle, a Chicago drug company. The FDA finally approved aspartame in 1981, even though scientific research had clearly shown that aspartame caused brain cancer in lab animals.

Along with control and survival, approval is one of the three basic human wants that keep us entrapped as the ego.

It's astonishing how far people will go for approval. The multi-billion dollar cosmetic industry is just one example. The clothing industry is another. The list goes on and on.

People pattern their behavior based on what they think will get approval. And yes it's common to subject ourselves to control to get approval.

The amazing thing is that it's incredibly effective to give ourselves approval. There's no need to seek it anywhere else.

In a epic ring war, fast hands and accurate shots were the difference as Ivan "Mighty" Robinson scored a ten-round split decision upset over former world champion Arturo "Thunder" Gatti.

Boxing fans were on their feet and screaming their approval as Robinson and Gatti traded leather for the entire distance. Despite friendship and mutual respect outside the ring, both men willingly hammered away at each other as momentum continued to swing back and forth. In the end, however, Robinson connected with the more telling blows to secure the victory. The heroic battle is a strong candidate for "Fight of the Year" honors. "I knew that Gatti is a slow starter and I know he comes on in the later rounds," Robinson said following the upset. "I know I'm not a knockout puncher, so I had to build up the points."

"I tried my best to come on but I came on too late in the fight," the battered Gatti said after the loss.
