Although you can tell they were just recently put together, this was still one of the more difficult OSPs that year. Interestingly, you see Natalia Linichuk in this footage doing commentary. If I'm not mistaken, she was Grishuk's former coach when Oksana was a junior but Grishuk left Linichuk to skate with Platov and his coach Natalia Dubova in late 1989. But when it was discovered that Grishuk and Alexander Zhulin (a rival) were having an affair in 1992, she was booted out of Dubova's camp and Platov was teamed up with a very young Tatiana Navka. However, Platov decided to reunite with Oksana and they went to Oksana's first coach, Natalia Linichuk. However, the couple split with Linichuk in 1996 and they eventually went to Tatiana Tarasova. Warning: the music synchronization is a little bit off in this video.

Oksana Grishuk with her old partner Alexander Chickov at the 1988 Junior Worlds. They won here and interestingly, Evgeni Platov won it 3 times in 1984, 1985, and 1986 with his first partner, Elena Krikanova. I think Oksana benefitted from having been coached by different people over the years (she was coached by Linichuk until 1989, she went to Dubova from 90-92, back to Linichuk from 93-96, and she ended her amateur career with Tarasova during 97 and 98) because I think she improved over the years (although she's already fantastic here at such a young age).

I noticed that this performance was not uploaded on youtube and decided to do it :)) There's also a short interview at the beginning of the clip. Grishuk and Platov are the best ice dancers by now. And I don't think that in the near future there would be a pair like them.

She's the best ever! I love her... And he's also veeery cute, not only as a skater :)

This is a montage I made of different figure skaters and ice dancers to "The Mummers Dance" by Loreena McKennit. In the begining, all of the skaters I used are statues that come to life to dance the mummers dance. It turns night into day and brings in clouds for a storm, and in the second half as things get more intense it brings different forces of nature, before the skaters turn back into statues at the end. Skaters include Michelle Kwan, Grishuk & Platov, Krylova & Ovsiannikov, Alexei Yagudin, Oksana Baiul, and Navka & Kostomarov.

Stars on ice in Russian. The winner pair: Oksana Grishuk and Petr Krasilov. :) Oh and I know I forgot the "k" in Oksana's name in the end of the video. sorry :(
