Anyway, I was trying to ask about this happening when I was there (April 2008) and I beleived all this has ended. No more child sex trade/slavery is happening here. Only normal massage parlour or extra 'services' that are offered here and all people that involved is really grown up adult. Finding this is truly a glad and relief feeling. Bravo to the foreign media that has uncovered this bizzare story and saved the innocence children in Cambodia. Hip hip hurray. Hip hip hurray.

In 1975, the Khmer Rouge captured power over the US supported Lon Nol government. Thus began a nightmare which saw Cambodian killing Cambodian.

The killings only stopped after Vietnam invaded Cambodia in 1979 as a result of a border dispute.

Many people say Vietnam should not have invaded Cambodia. However, history revealed that this act saved the Cambodians from further killings by the Khmer Rouge.

The Vietnamese invasion triggered a war with China at the Viet-Chinese border......but that is another story.

Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge, and Genocide in Cambodia

During their three-year, eight-month, and 21-day rule of Cambodia, the Khmer Rouge committed some of the most heinous crimes in modern history:

- The entire population of Cambodia's urban areas was evacuated from their homes and forced to march into rural areas to work the fields.

- Every man, woman, and child was forced into slave labor for 12-15 hours each day.

- An estimated two million people (21% of Cambodia's population) lost their lives. Many of these victims were brutally executed; many more died of starvation, exhaustion, and disease.

That these crimes were committed so recently (1975-1978) makes them all the more sickening. The country's scars are still plainly visible:

- The population is suspiciously youthful (50% is under the age of 15).

- The economy is in shambles. This is partially thanks to the Khmer Rouge's execution of the upper and educated classes. The fact that they destroyed most of the vehicles and machines in the cities can't have helped.

- New human remains turn up around the exhumed mass graves of the Killing Fields of Cheoung Ek on a daily basis. Silent reminders of the tragedy, these bones and teeth are ceremoniously placed into makeshift shrines in tree hollows and cement planters.

It's hard to comprehend the motivations behind an atrocity like the Cambodian genocide. What could have been going through the minds of the Khmer Rouge officers and their leader Pol Pot?

"Hey Pol, I've got an idea, man. Let's turn the country upside down and get real primitive. Evacuate all the cities, march everyone out to the country. And then start farming, man! Big time. And if anyone resists, let's execute them. In fact, let's kill a whole lot of people. I'm talking hundreds of thousands. Maybe millions. And do it real cruel-like. Bash their heads against trees, electrocute 'em, drown 'em in vats of cold water..."

Fear must have been the prevailing motivator in the regime. How could an officer commit such monstrous crimes against his own countrymen? For fear that something even worse would happen to him.

The Khmer Rouge atrocity seems to follow a time-honored recipe for genocide: the obsessive desire to reach a religious or political ideal coupled with a healthy dose of madness.

Why don't we learn? It seems as if past atrocities of genocide haven't served as a warning, but instead as a blueprint for how to repeat them.

But if history has proven human beings to be intrinsically fallible, it has also proven us to be extraordinarily resilient. Pol Pot cast a heavy shadow over Cambodia, but the people have managed to persevere, begin anew, and find joy in life again.

Khmer classical dance, also known as Khmer royal ballet or Khmer court dance, is a form of Cambodia dance originally performed only for royalty. It is called robam preah reachea trop in the Khmer language, which means 'dances of royal wealth.'

The dances have many elements in common with Thai classical dance, most likely a result of the royal Khmer court exchanging culture with the royal Thai court throughout the post-Angkor era. Khmer and Thai classical dance costumes once looked very similar to each other, but Khmer dance and costume have gone under slight changes and reforms brought on by the former Queen of Cambodia, Kossamak Nearireath. During the mid-20th century, it was introduced to the public where it now remains a celebrated icon of Khmer culture, often being performed during public events, holidays, and for tourists visiting Cambodia.

The last running train in Cambodia, going each weekend from Phnom Penh to Battambang. It runs at under 20km an hour, can be easily out-run and remains one of the few places where you can ride the roof. Just watch out for the power lines.

Holy shit. It's been over a year since this has been up and I'm quite surprised people are still watching it. And there were a couple of things I already knew what was going to happen once I posted it on youtube and it was this, that a lot of people would watch it, a lot of people will like it, and a lot of people will despise it. Personally, I don't care what people think of this video. I didn't make this video to insult or anger those who follow our rich customs. I didn't make it to get famous or recognized. I only made this video for my Khmer language class because I like making movies and it got me out of doing a writing assignment. It was just something fun to do with my friends. No, we're not. Our race is no better nor worse than any others that share this planet with us. And if you truly believe otherwise, consider this. Didn't Adolf Hitler, who believed his race was superior, kill off those he believed were inferior? And if you tell yourself, "I'm not like Hitler, I'd never do anything like that." To this I say to you, an entire war started because one man thought he was better than another. And to everyone else who talk this wild shit about Cambodians blah blah this, blah blah that, keep talking because no one's listening. I don't know how brave a person has to be to type on the keyboard, hiding behind a monitor. Or maybe you're the type of person that can't seem to get it up unless you randomly start shit just to get people riled up. Hey don't go to youtube for that, go to viagara.com. Call a doctor if you stay erect past 6 hours. To all the people who supported me and actually understood what my intentions were, I thank you, I really do. You guys know how to live. To everyone else lacking a sense of humor or at least an understanding of this video, let me tell you, it takes more passion to create something than it does to tear it down.
