Former President Bill Clinton laid to rest any speculation Wednesday night that he would not enthusiastically back Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois for president by making a forceful call for voters to elect Obama because "Barack Obama is ready to lead America and restore American leadership in the world."
"I am here first to support Barack Obama," Clinton said, opening his address in characteristic fashion by deviating from the prepared text aides distributed to reporters ahead of time.
On the night the Democratic National Convention made Obama the first African-American ever nominated by a major party, Clinton acknowledged that his "preferred candidate" — his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York — had fallen short. But, he said, "like her, I want all of you to support Barack Obama in November."

Barack Obama on some Issues concerning Women
Preventing Unwanted Pregnancy:
Barack Obama is an original co-sponsor of legislation to expand access to contraception, health information and preventive services to help reduce unintended pregnancies. Introduced in January 2007, the Prevention First Act will increase funding for family planning and comprehensive sex education that teaches both abstinence and safe sex methods. The Act will also end insurance discrimination against contraception, improve awareness about emergency contraception, and provide compassionate assistance to rape victims.
Supports a Woman’s Right to Choose:
Barack Obama understands that abortion is a divisive issue, and respects those who disagree with him. However, he has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a priority as President. He opposes any constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's decision in that case.
PREVENTING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Reducing Domestic Violence:
One in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Family violence accounted for 11 percent of all violence between 1998 and 2002. Barack Obama introduced legislation to combat domestic violence by providing $25 million a year for partnerships between domestic violence prevention organizations and Fatherhood or Marriage programs to train staff in domestic violence services, provide services to families affected by domestic violence, and to develop best practices in domestic violence prevention.
Strengthening Domestic Violence Laws:
Approximately 1,400 women a year – four every day – die in the United States as a result of domestic violence. And 132,000 women report that they have been victims of a rape or attempted rape, and it is estimated that an even greater number have been raped, but do not report it. Senator Obama co-sponsored and helped reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. Signed into law in January 2006, the bill funds and helps communities, nonprofit organizations, and police combat domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The legislation establishes a sexual assault services program and provides education grants to prevent domestic violence.
Fighting Gender Violence Abroad:
The genocide in Darfur has had particularly devastating consequences for women. Tens of thousands of women have been killed, raped, and displaced since the conflict began in 2003. Barack Obama has been a leading voice in Washington urging the end of genocide in Sudan. He worked with Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) on the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act, a version of which was signed into law. Obama has traveled to the United Nations to meet with Sudanese officials and visited refugee camps on the Chad-Sudan border to raise international awareness of the ongoing humanitarian disaster there. He also worked with Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) to secure $20 million for the African Union peacekeeping mission.

Things get a little heated... but any of these Democratic candidates will make for a great US President. The important thing is to come together, after a nominee is selected, and work together to put an end to the GOP culture of deceit and corruption.
[AP] MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Democratic presidential rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama accused each other of repeatedly and deliberately distorting the truth for political gain Monday night in a highly personal, finger-wagging debate that ranged from the war in Iraq to Bill Clinton's role in the campaign.
Obama told the former first lady he was helping unemployed workers on the streets of Chicago when "you were a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart."
Moments later, Clinton said that she was fighting against misguided Republican policies "when you were practicing law and representing your contributor ... in his slum landlord business in inner city Chicago."

Days before Senkwekwe and three other mountain gorillas were killed, journalist Paul Raffaele filmed Senkwekwe in the wild. He reports on the battle to save the world's mountain gorillas. In the mountains of the DRC, silverback gorilla Senkwekwe watches over his young family. A few weeks later, he was dead, alongside three females in his harem. It was the worst gorilla massacre in 25 years. "There's a threat to the gorillas from poaching, for the exotic pet trade", explains ranger Rob Muir. Gorillas now share their habitat with rebel militias, driven into the hills by UN peacekeepers. These rebels could have been responsible for the killing of another two mountain gorillas earlier. "They were stripped of all their flesh", describes Muir.

Part 2 of 11. Keith Olbermann hosts the Democratic Presidential Candidates' debate in Chicago, 8/7/07 Candidates speaking in this portion of the debate are Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden.
DISCLAIMER:
I 'disable comments' for two reasons:
1) I think the video speaks for itself,
2) I do not see the value in someone commenting, "Keith rulz! and I agree with everything he says", and another person commenting "Olbermann the dork needs to take his Groucho Marx eyebrows and leave on a LONG vacation. He is the most pathetic figure on television. Oh...sorry Rosie...the second most pathetic figure".
YouTube does doesn't give enough space (500 characters) for intelligent comments or thoughtful dialogue.
I believe that we're in this mess because people think that by posting a comment on the internet somewhere, they're civic-minded and making a difference when, in fact, the only thing that makes a difference is commenting where people with power will hear you and fear your removing them from power: Through phone calls and snail mail to your elected officials and marching in the streets.

Alec Baldwin narrates the story of legendary community organizer, Saul Alinsky, and his modern-day legacy. "The Democratic Promise: Saul Alinsky & His Legacy," narrated by actor Alec Baldwin, examines the life and legacy of the controversial community organizer Alinsky and his modern-day legacy. The first half of the program chronicles the Chicago-based organizer Saul Alinsky and three key Alinsky organizations to show how his techniques developed over time including The Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council, in Chicago's blighted stockyards in the 1930's. By forming an unprecedented coalition between the Catholic Church and the Meatpackers Union, Alinsky was able to force several landmark concessions from the meatpacking industry. These three organizations show how Alinsky's ideas, in turn, influenced the civil rights movement, the farmworkers struggle and many Vietnam era political protests...

Berlin - Barack Obama spoke to a crowd of more than 200 thousand in Berlin. Before the largest crowd of his campaign, Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama on Thursday summoned Europeans and Americans together to "defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it" as surely as they conquered communism a generation ago.
"The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand," Obama said, speaking not far from where the Berlin Wall once divided the city.
"The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes, natives and immigrants, Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand," he said.
Obama said he was speaking as a citizen, not as a president, but the evening was awash in politics. His remarks inevitably invited comparison to historic speeches in the same city by Presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan, and he borrowed rhetoric from his own appeals to campaign audiences in the likes of Berlin, N.H., when he addressed a crowd in one of the great cities of Europe.
"People of Berlin, people of the world, this is our moment. This is our time," he said.

SUZANNE MALVEAUX, CNN: I'd like to follow-up with Senator Obama. It was just a few days ago that Senator Clinton asserted that she was the strongest candidate when it comes to fiscal responsibility.
She says that the new programs that she proposes she essentially can pay for. She says that you have failed in that regard in the tune of some $50 billion worth of new programs that you cannot account for.
How do you respond to that charge?
OBAMA: What she said wasn't true. We account for every single dollar that we propose.
Now, this, I think, is one of the things that's happened during the course of this campaign, that there's a set of assertions made by Senator Clinton, as well as her husband, that are not factually accurate.
And I think that part of what the people are looking for right now is somebody who's going to solve problems and not resort to the same typical politics that we've seen in Washington.
(APPLAUSE)
That is something that I hear all across the country. So when Senator Clinton says -- or President Clinton says that I wasn't opposed to the war from the start or says it's a fairytale that I opposed the war, that is simply not true.
When Senator Clinton or President Clinton asserts that I said that the Republicans had had better economic policies since 1980, that is not the case.
Now, the viewers aren't concerned with this kind of back-and- forth. What they're concerned about is who's actually going to help the get health care, how are they going to get their kids...

Democracy -- 1 Dec 2007
Democracy just ain't for me it fails time and again
The savior from apartheid brought a scourge all of its own
With power hungry autocrats on tickets to gain votes
Politicians promises building on false hopes
It's all self gain all compromise it's all about the take
The bigger cheque the faster car how much can I make
Forgotten fast the principles which put you where you are
The grass roots challenges they face now witnessed from afar
Show me a man uncompromised the nation at his heart
I bet you cannot find one don't know where to start
Corruption rules and money talks the scandals never stop
George Orwell yeah he got it right the pigs just won't give up
One regime to another only faces they have changed
But the selfish disposition and the greed they have remained
From Manto through to Zuma and Mbeki, Shaik Shabir
Aids cures to convictions oh dear oh dear oh dear
I am sure that old Madiba tears his clothes in vain
When he sees crime and corruption smear his old campaign
Show me a man uncompromised the nation at his heart
I bet you cannot find one don't know where to start
MIDDLE 8
Onions to cure aids
Showers wash away
Make money today
Vision fades to grey
We need rejuvenation need a new breed to come in
Leaders with some vision who can take it on the chin
People not removed from the country and its goals
Selfless moral warriors committed to their roles
Democracy just ain't for me it fails time and again
The savior from apartheid brought a scourge all of its own
With power hungry autocrats on tickets to gain votes
Politicians promises building on false hopes
Show me a man uncompromised the nation at his heart

Parts of India, such as the southwestern state of Kerala, are as Christian as any part of Europe or the United States. Christianity in India is almost as old as Christianity itself.
