The Colombian police recently busted a notorious drug ring. Three of those arrested are alleged to have ties with Hezbollah. Here's more on this story.

STORY:
Colombian authorities announced Wednesday that they have broken up an international drug and money-laundering ring. Three of those arrested are suspected of shipping funds to Hezbollah guerrillas. More than 100 suspects were arrested in Colombia and overseas.

[Maria del Pilar Hurtado, Security Director]:
"There were Middle East citizens involved with the Hezbollah and it is believed that a part of their resources could be financing terrorist attacks. It is, as you can see, a very important operation with the collaboration of the police from more than ten different countries.”

Political analyst Alfredo Rangel claimed it further proves a global network of terrorist groups funded by the drug trade.

[Alfredo Rangel, Political Analyst]:
"It would confirm that both the terrorism and the traffic of narcotics are global and interrelated.”

Washington has often complained that Iran-backed Hezbollah and other Islamic groups that it considers terrorist organizations are active in Arab communities in South American countries such as Brazil and Venezuela.

Introduction
Writing five years after the attacks of September 11, 2001, US military expert Anthony Cordesman published an account of the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict. "Preliminary Lessons of the Israeli-Hezbollah War" created enormous interest in the Pentagon, where it was studied by planners for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and passed hand-to-hand among military experts in Washington.

From the onset of the conflict to its last operations, Hezbollah commanders successfully penetrated Israel's strategic and tactical decision-making cycle across a spectrum of intelligence, military and political operations, with the result that Hezbollah scored a decisive and complete victory in its war with Israel.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is the secretary-general of the Lebanese political party Hezbollah. In February of 2006, before the Israel waged War on Lebanon, three former US diplomats had a chance to meet with Sayyed Nasrallah as part of a delegation to the Middle East organised by the Council for the National Interest. During the meeting, Sayyed Nasrallah outlined the origins of the conflicts in the Middle East, the formation of Hezbollah and the story of the national resistance movement in Lebanon. During the meeting, Sayyed Nasrallah discussed Hezbollah's strategy to free Lebanese prisoners being held illegally in Israel. He also recollected the role that the United Nations Security Council, the United States and member states of the Arab Union played in recent Lebanese history during which, they not only made no attempt to avail the Lebanese people of the military occupation at the hands of Israel but instead supported the aggressions against Lebanon and labelled its' resistance movements as terrorists.
