A journalist hurled two shoes at President George W. Bush on his farewell visit to Iraq on Sunday, highlighting hostility still felt toward the outgoing US leader who acknowledged that the war is still not won.

A surprise visit by US President George Bush to Iraq has been overshadowed by an incident in which two shoes were thrown at him during a news conference.
An Iraqi journalist was wrestled to the floor by security guards after he called Mr Bush "a dog" and threw his footwear, just missing the president.
The US president has now continued to Afghanistan to inspect troops there.
He arrived before dawn at Bagram air force base, and is due to hold talks with President Hamid Karzai.
Earlier in Baghdad, Mr Bush and Iraqi PM Nouri Maliki signed the new security agreement between their countries.
The pact calls for US troops to leave Iraq in 2011 - eight years after the 2003 invasion that has in part defined the Bush presidency.
Speaking just over five weeks before he hands over power to Barack Obama, Mr Bush also said the war in Iraq was not over and more work remained to be done.
His previously unannounced visit came a day after Defence Secretary Robert Gates told US troops the Iraq mission was in its "endgame".
'Size 10'
In the middle of the news conference with Mr Maliki, Iraqi television journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi stood up and shouted "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog," before hurling a shoe at Mr Bush which narrowly missed him.
Showing the soles of shoes to someone is a sign of contempt in Arab culture.
With his second shoe, which the president also managed to dodge, Mr Zaidi said: "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq."
Mr Zaidi, a correspondent for Cairo-based al-Baghdadiya TV, was then wrestled to the ground by security personnel and hauled away.
"If you want the facts, it's a size 10 shoe that he threw," Mr Bush joked afterwards.
Al-Baghdadiya's bureau chief told the Associated Press that he had no idea what prompted Mr Zaidi to attack President Bush, although reports say he was once kidnapped by a militia and beaten up.
"I am trying to reach Muntadar since the incident, but in vain," said Fityan Mohammed. "His phone is switched off."
Correspondents said the attack was symbolic. Iraqis threw shoes and used them to beat Saddam Hussein's statue after his overthrow.
'American security'
Mr Bush's first stop upon arriving in Baghdad was the Iraqi presidential palace in the heavily-fortified Green Zone, where he held talks with President Jalal Talabani.
"The work hasn't been easy but it's been necessary for American security, Iraqi hope and world peace," Mr Bush said during his talks with Mr Talabani.
The Iraqi president called Mr Bush "a great friend for the Iraqi people, who helped us liberate our country".
The BBC's Humphrey Hawksley, in Baghdad, says the key issue at present is exactly how American troops will withdraw within the next three years and what sort of Iraq they will leave behind.
The US media has just published details of a US government report saying that post invasion reconstruction of Iraq was crippled by bureaucratic turf wars and an ignorance of the basic elements of Iraqi society.
The report is circulating among US officials in draft form, says the New York Times.
It reveals details of a reconstruction effort that cost more than $100bn (£67bn) and only succeeded in restoring what was destroyed in the invasion and the widespread looting that followed it, the newspaper said.
Troop promises
Mr Bush's visit, unannounced in advance and conducted under tight security, follows the approval last month of a security pact between Washington and Baghdad that calls for US troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of 2011.
US troops are first to withdraw from Iraqi cities, including Baghdad, by June next year.
Defence Secretary Gates said on Saturday that "the process of the drawdown" had begun.
"We are, I believe, in terms of the American commitment, in the endgame here in Iraq," he told US troops at an airbase near Baghdad.
Mr Gates has been picked to stay on as defence secretary by President-elect Barack Obama.
President Bush leaves the White House in less than six weeks. He said in a recent interview with ABC News that the biggest regret of his presidency was the false intelligence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
Finding these was one of the key justifications for the invasion. None were ever found.

THERE were bloody clashes outside the Israeli embassy in London today as protesters threw fireworks, stones, shoes and glass bottles at riot police.
Around 200 police confronted protesters with batons, leaving several wounded, as masked men raced towards the gates of the Israeli embassy carrying Palestinian and Hezbollah flags.
Earlier, thousands of demonstrators - including human rights activist Bianca Jagger and Respect MP George Galloway - marched through the capital, as protests against Israels bombardment of Gaza intensified.
The London rally was mirrored in towns and cities across the UK and locations around the world. They followed similar protests in parts of the Muslim world on Friday.
In London, where the largest demonstration was held, protesters threw their shoes at the gates of No 10 Downing St, echoing the protest of an Iraqi journalist who hurled his footwear at President George W Bush during a press conference last month.

Police guarding Downing Street were forced to duck as a firework was hurled towards No 10, exploding metres from the iron gates and echoing around Whitehall.

Later on in the march there were chaotic scenes when protesters entered an underpass in Piccadilly. According to eyewitness reports, police in riot gear began hitting and stamping on protesters, leaving several wounded with head injuries.

Several hundred protesters later gathered outside the Israeli Embassy in Kensington calling for an immediate end to the Israeli air strikes. One group of demonstrators set fire to an Israeli flag while other protesters attempted to scale metal barriers protecting the embassy building.
Addressing a rally in Trafalgar Square today, Jagger called on president-elect Barack Obama to speak up about the crisis in Gaza.
People throughout the world were hopeful when he was elected and we must appeal to him to ask for the immediate cessation of the bombardment of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, she said.

The singer Annie Lennox spoke of her shock at watching the Israeli offensive of the bombing on television.

She said: A few days after Christmas I came downstairs, put the television on, and saw smoke pyres coming from buildings and I was shocked to the core.
Former London Mayor Ken Livingstone and Jewish comedian Alexei Sayle also added their support to the campaign.
Sayle said he was speaking out because it was important for Jewish voices to be heard.
He said: I want to feel proud of Israel, I want to be proud of my people but I am ashamed.
The UN has reported that some 2,000 Palestinians have been wounded since the air strikes began last Saturday. More than 400 people have been killed, including 60 civilians - 34 of them children.
Three Israeli civilians and a soldier have also died as a result of rockets fired by Hamas militants across the Gaza border.

US President George W. Bush had a pair of shoes hurled at him during his farewell visit to Baghdad.

Just weeks before he bequeaths the unpopular Iraq war to President-elect Barack Obama, Bush declared that while great strides have been taken toward peace, "the war is not over". In a sign of lingering anger over the war that will define the Republican president's foreign policy legacy, an Iraqi journalist shouted "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog," and hurled his shoes at Bush during a news conference with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Throwing shoes at somebody is a supreme insult in the Middle East. One of the shoes sailed over the president's head and slammed into the wall behind him and he had to duck to miss the other one. Maliki tried to block the second shoe with his arm. "It's like going to a political rally and have people yell at you. It's a way for people to draw attention," Bush said. "I don't know what the guy's cause was. I didn't feel the least bit threatened by it." The journalist was leapt on by Iraqi security officials and US secret service agents and dragged from the room screaming and struggling. Bush's fleeting visit to Baghdad was aimed at marking the recent passage of a U.S.-Iraq security pact that paves the way for U.S. troops to pull out of Iraqi cities by July next year and withdraw completely by the end of 2011.

The man who hurled his shoes at Bush during his press conference was an Iraqi journalist. CNN notes that this is considered an insult among muslims:

An Iraqi television journalist hurled two shoes at President Bush on Sunday during a joint news conference Bush was holding with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki to mark the signing of a U.S.-Iraq security agreement.

Bush had just finished his prepared remarks in which he said the security agreement was made possible by the U.S. surge of troops earlier this year, whhen the journalist, Muthathar al Zaidi pulled his shoes off and hurled them at the president. "This is a goodbye kiss, you dog," Zaidi shouted.

Bush dodged the shoes and was not struck. Bodyguards quickly wrestled Zaidi to the floor and hauled him, kicking and screaming, from the room. Two other Iraqi journalists were briefly detained after one of them called Zaidi's actions "courageous."

Shoes thrown at Bush in Iraq 14.12.08
An Iraqi reporter threw shoes at President Bush President Bush Attacked By Shoes GEORGE BUSH
A journalist hurled two shoes at US President George W Bush on his farewell visit to Iraq on Sunday, highlighting hostility still felt toward the outgoing US leader who acknowledged that the war is still not won.

Muntazer al-Zaidi jumped up as Bush held a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, shouted "It is the farewell kiss, you dog" and threw his footwear.

The president lowered his head and the first shoe hit the American and Iraqi flags behind the two leaders. The second was off target.

Zaidi, a reporter with the Al-Baghdadia channel which broadcasts from Cairo, was immediately wrestled to the ground by security guards and frogmarched from the room.

Soles of shoes are considered the ultimate insult in Arab culture. After Saddam Hussein's statue was toppled in Baghdad in April 2003, many onlookers beat the statue's face with their soles.

Bush laughed off the incident, saying: "It doesn't bother me. If you want the facts, it was a size 10 shoe that he threw".

He later played down the incident. "I don't know what the guy's cause is... I didn't feel the least bit threatened by it."

Bush, on his fourth and final official trip to Iraq since he ordered the March 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam, admitted: "There is still more work to be done."

As he and Maliki signed a security pact setting out new guidelines for US troops in Iraq, the president said: "The war is not over, but with the conclusion of these agreements... it is decisively on its way to being won."

Earlier, Bush ventured out in a motorcade through Baghdad streets, the first time he has gone somewhere other than a military base or the heavily protected Green Zone.

Pool reports said the unmarked motorcade passed through darkened streets that appeared heavily guarded, before arriving at Maliki's residence.

Bush hands over the delicate task of overseeing the US withdrawal from Iraq in five weeks to Barack Obama, who has pledged to turn the page on the deeply unpopular war.

"I'm so grateful that I've had a chance to come back to Iraq before my presidency ends," he said at a meeting with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

Bush has staunchly defended the invasion that triggered years of deadly insurgency and sectarian violence that has killed tens of thousands of Iraqis and more than 4,200 American troops.

President Bush dodges two shoes hurled at him by an Iraqi journalist during news conference; Press Secretary Dana Perino injured in melee

BAGHDAD -- His legacy forever linked to an unpopular war, President George W. Bush visited Iraq under intense security Sunday and declared that a long, hard conflict is necessary to protect the United States and give Iraqis hope.

"The war is not over," he said.

Bush got a size-10 reminder of the fervent opposition to his policies when a man threw two shoes at him -- one after another -- during a news conference with Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

"This is the end!" shouted the man, later identified as Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Al-Baghdadiya television, an Iraqi-owned station based in Cairo, Egypt.

Bush ducked both throws. Neither leader was hit. In Iraqi culture, throwing shoes at someone is a sign of contempt; Iraqis whacked a statue of Saddam Hussein with their shoes after U.S. Marines toppled it to the ground in 2003.

"All I can report," Bush joked of the incident, "is a size 10."

White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, however, was hit in the eye with a microphone as security guards scrambled to restrain al-Zeidi.

The U.S. president visited the Iraqi capital just 37 days before he hands the war off to President-elect Barack Obama, who has pledged to end it. The president wanted to highlight a drop in violence in a nation still riven by ethnic strife and to celebrate a recent U.S.-Iraq security agreement, which calls for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq by the end of 2011.

This three minute video clip is made up of "left-overs" from The Real Jesus DVD which was recently released in December.

You can find ordering information at the link above.

I know that on the surface this video clip title seems blasphemous, but that is what the post-modernists have recently hurled at Christian orthodoxy in a vain and stupid attempt to defeat the truth of the resurrection.

(And by "hurled," I do mean "hurled.")

Jesus Seminar scholar, John Dominic Crossan, lives a few miles up the road from me in Clermont, Florida. Crossan thinks that Jesus' body must have been eaten by dogs, despite having no evidence or documents to back this up.

I've heard "experts" claim that crucified bodies were NEVER buried as the Gospel describes, despite having a corroborating passage in Josephus that tells how Jews often took crucified bodies off the cross for burial before the scavenger beasts came out at sundown.

J.P. Holding offers evidence to refute this.

And just for fun I asked James P. Holding:

"I hear a lot of comments from Jesus Mythists about how there are no evidence of the crucifixion of Jesus in "Roman records."

They think that somehow the argument from silence applies here, even though there is not one existing "crucifixion record" from Judea during the time of Jesus' crucifixion.

People don't know how common an occurrence crucifixion was in the first century.

People also don't know that Josephus' description of crucifixion closely matches that of the Gospels in recounting what happened with Jesus' body.

How many times does Josephus describe or record crucifixions in his History? Does any of this information corroborate the record of Jesus body being taken from the cross and buried?

"Nay, they proceeded to that degree of impiety, as to cast away their dead bodies without burial, although the Jews used to take so much care of the burial of men, that they took down those that were condemned and crucified, and buried them before the going down of the sun" (Josephus Wars 4.5).

Compare this with Gospel account about Joseph of Arimathea.

"Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good and just man. He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near" (Luke 23:50-54).

6th June 1944, Normandy invasion from German perspective.

As late as 13:35 the German 352nd division was reporting that the assault had been hurled back into the sea. From their vantage point at Pointe de la Percée overlooking the whole of the beach from the western end the German perception was that the assault had been stopped at the beach. An officer there noted that troops were seeking cover behind obstacles and counted ten tanks burning. However, as early as 07:35 the third battalion 726th Grenadier Regiment, defending Draw F-1 on Fox Green beach, was reporting that 100--200 American troops had penetrated its front, with enemy inside the wire at WN-62 and WN-61 under attack from the rear. Casualties amongst the defenders were mounting and at the same time that the 916th regiment, defending the centre of the 352nd zone, was reporting that the landings had been frustrated, it was also requesting reinforcement. The request could not be met because the situation elsewhere in Normandy was becoming more urgent for the defenders.

Asian American rapper Jin has released a diss record aimed at talk show host Rose O'Donnell, after O'Donnell host made what many felt were racist comments directed towards Asian Americans last month.

Jin has responded to O'Donnell's comments with the recently released single, " You're Fired," which features the rapper hurling insults at O'Donnell for her off color comments about Asians.

"I recorded the song basically for the same reason she decided to do her little 'ching chong' bit: that's just how I am," Jin said of the single.

The song, which features Jin rapping over Nas' song "Ether," also interjects clips of Donald Trump commenting on the matter, who states that he would have fired the famous talk show host for her racist remarks.
