I built the ball machine because I thought my dog Jerry, might like it and that it would be something fun for me to build. So after two years of on and off work, with many safety features such as IR proximity sensors to protect Jerry and my son from the machine, I finally complete.

Far from being a replacement for me, I was always right there with him enjoying his fun. And with all the troubles that I went through to build the ball machine, I still end up throwing more balls than that the machine could count! According to the computer, he played with the machine by himself only 3 times in his life.

I recently put this video on YouTube to keep alive my earlier memories of him and (hopefully) provide some "humorous distractions" for anyone that might drop by.

In performance at The White House, Jerry Orbach sings "Try to Remember" from The Fantasticks. Several have commented on their surprise on learning Mr. Orbach could sing. I will repeat a comment I and others have made that he was a major Broadway musical star of the 1960s through 1980s. He was the original Billy Flynn in Chicago. He introduced "Try to Remember" off-Broadway in the original production of "The Fantasticks". (For those interested in "The Fantasticks", please listen to the original recording. You may also enjoy several of its songs done by Barbra Streisand on her very first album "The Barbra Streisand Album".)

Bringing to new audiences the previously unknown work of artists like Mr. Orbach is for me one of the great features of YouTube. At this point, of the 100+ videos I've posted, this ranks as #10 in number of views. I am glad so many have enjoyed it.
