Human Weapon's done by the History Channel and is hosted by Bill Duff and Jason Chambers. In the third episode of Human Weapon, the two covered Karate.

Fight Quest is done by the Discovery Channel, and is hosted by Doug Anderson, a Iraq War Veteran and rookie fighter from NJ(the shorter one with hair), and Jimmy Smith, a professional MMA fighter and former Math teacher (wtf? lol) from LA (He's the bald fella). This, my friends, is Kyokushin Karate at its finest. You guys wanted to see a fight? You're in for a treat, since both of these hosts are getting battered in Kumite -- battles against 5 people to test your determination and mettle. You're one fella, and you fight one person at a time for one minute, where they switch off while you remain on the mat. It's truly a test of your ability and will power -- as you lose energy, fresh opponents come to fight you five times over.

I must note that Doug suffered a bad injury to his leg during this episode. Yet, to stay true to the philosophy of Kyokushin, Doug decided to go do the Kumite. I think that's really cool, and that's why I like Fight Quest more. That's just my opinion, though... see for yourselves.

Synopsis:
Daniel and his mother move from New Jersy to California. She has a wonderful
new job but Daniel discovers that a dark haired boy with a Jersey
accent doesn't fit into the blond surfer crowd, especially when he tries to
date one of their ex-girlfriends. Daniel manages to talk his way out of some
fights but is finally cornered by several who belong to the same karate school
(The Cobra Kai's). As Daniel is passing out from the beating he sees Mr.Miyagi, the elderly gardner
leap into the fray and save him by outfighting a half dozen teenagers. Miyagi and
Daniel find the real motivator behind the boys' violent attitude is the their
karate teacher. Miyagi promises to teach Daniel to fight and arranges a fight at a
karate contest some months off. When his training begins, Daniel can't understand
what he is being shown. Miyagi seems more
interested in having Daniel paint fences and wax cars than teaching him Karate.

The most popular image associated with kata is that of a karate practitioner performing a series of punches and kicks in the air. The kata are executed as a specified series of approximately 20 to 70 moves, generally with stepping and turning, while attempting to maintain perfect form. There are perhaps 100 kata across the various forms of karate, each with many minor variations. The number of moves in a kata may be referred to in the name of the kata, eg. Gojushiho, which means "54 steps." The number of moves may also have links with Buddhist spirituality. The number 108 is significant in Buddhism, and kata with 54, 36, or 27 moves (divisors of 108) are common. The practitioner is generally counselled to visualize the enemy attacks, and his or her responses, as actually occurring, and karateka are often told to "read" a kata, to explain the imagined events.

In teaching the open handed kata, most styles of Karate start with a series of three, or sometimes two, very simple kata called blocking forms before advancing to five basic kata named Pinan in some systems and Heian in others. By working through this series (in order: Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan (except in Wado Ryu Karate, where Shodan and Nidan are reversed)) the practitioner learns all the basic stances and techniques before moving on to more advanced kata. Traditionally, kata are taught in stages. Previously learned kata are returned to in order to show more advanced techniques or ways of doing things, as beginners do not have the same knowledge and experience that practitioners further up the ranks have. It is not uncommon in some styles for students testing for Shodan (first rank black belt) to have to repeat every kata they have learned from the first belt, but at a "black belt" level, for example, with better technique, power, amongst others. This system is often used for the lower grades as well. The student will perform one new kata and one or two previous ones, to demonstrate how much they have progressed and how quickly they can learn new things.
