"Why So Serious?!" The Dark Knight. The Joker Tribute - The Dark Knight Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight is a 2008 American superhero film co-written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film is a sequel to Batman Begins (2005), which rebooted the Batman film series after an eight-year hiatus. Christian Bale reprises the lead role. Batman's primary conflicts in the film include his fight against the Joker (Heath Ledger) and his strained friendship with district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart).

For his conception of the film, Nolan was inspired by the Joker's first two appearances in the comics and Batman: The Long Halloween. The Dark Knight was filmed primarily in Chicago (as was Batman Begins), as well as in several other locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong. The director used an IMAX camera to film six major action sequences, including the Joker's first appearance in the film. The Batsuit was redesigned, with a cowl allowing Bale to move his head. The film also introduces a recreation of the Batcycle, known as the Batpod.

Warner Bros. created an aggressive viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight, developing promotional websites and trailers highlighting screenshots of Heath Ledger as the Joker. After Ledger's death in January 2008, however, the studio refocused its promotional campaign.[3][4] The film will be released on July 16, 2008 in Australia, on July 18, 2008 in North America, and on July 25, 2008 in the United Kingdom.

This video is a tribute to Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight.
After seeing the film last night (17th July Perth Australia Time) I must say that Heath Ledger as the Joker is without a doubt the greatest villian, and possibly the greatest character, ever to appear in cinema. It had my captivated from beginning to end. A definate choice for the Oscar.

When it was announced that Heath Ledger would be cast as the Joker in 2006 I was very sceptical, like many others, if he was the right choice for the role. But when the first official image appeared on the internet in early 2007 all my doubts were blown away by the amazing and horrifying direction that they taking this iconic character, and probably the greatest villian in history. As more and more footage and voice snippets were released I was assured that Ledger had surely made this role his own. The tragic fact that he passed away shows the world has lost a truely dedicated and inventive actor.

The animation at the end is not part of the tribute video, but I thought while I'm uploading a video why not include it. You may like it/ you may not. You don't have to watch it.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday of a possible drug overdose in a Lower Manhattan apartment, the New York Police Department said.

The Academy Award nominated actor was 28.

"Pills were found in the vicinity of the bed," police spokesman Paul Browne told CNN.

"This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet."

The pills appeared to be over-the-counter sleeping medication, said police spokeswoman Barbara Chen.

Ledger was unresponsive when he was found by a housekeeper who had gone to wake him for an appointment with a masseuse in the Soho apartment, Browne said.

The apartment is owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, The New York Times reported.

Ledger was declared dead at about 3:30 p.m., Browne said.

In 2005, the actor played Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain," about two cowboys who had a secret relationship.

The role earned him the Oscar nomination.

Ledger was born in Perth, Australia. He has a young daughter with actress Michelle Williams, his co-star in "Brokeback Mountain."

"He was just so respected in the industry," said Kim Serafin, senior editor of In Touch Weekly.

"It's just horribly tragic. He was just a fine actor and a good person, so this is horribly sad and very unexpected."

Ledger was always focused on his career, Serafin said.

Some of his other film credits also include "A Knight's Tale" in 2001 and "The Four Feathers" in 2002.


The follow-up to the action hit "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight" reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. In the new film, Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker.
