Profile: Formed: 1988 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
LFO (Low Frequency Oscillation), named after the Low Frequency Oscillator component of synthesizers, were pioneers of the Sheffield "bleep techno" sound in the UK at the start of the 1990's and are best known for the early self-titled techno anthem "LFO".
Varley and Bell met while studying at Leeds and gave their first track, the eponymous "LFO", to Nightmares on Wax. The popularity of the demo in clubs led to the track being released by the Sheffield-based Warp Records in 1990, and it was a Top 20 hit in the U.K., reaching number 12 in the singles charts.

Their follow-up single, "We Are Back", was released in the summer of 1991.

DJ Martin (Martin Williams) is credited as a cowriter and coproducer of the track "LFO" but was not a member of the group. Mark Bell explains:

"We gave a tape of our recordings to DJ Martin who helped loads with arranging our tracks so it'd work on the dancefloor. We'd just been messing around with drum machines since we were like thirteen, tapping away at them like they were arcade games, making tapes to play our mates at school. Anyway, DJ Martin would play our cassettes in his sets and people would go mental - in a good way - cos they were totally raw."

Later signed to Tommy Boy Records in the U.S., the duo remixed Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" as well as Björk, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Laurent Garnier, and The Sabres of Paradise.
Varley left in 1996 and formed Feedback with Simon Hartley (a.k.a. Wild Planet). Mark Bell produced Homogenic with Björk and Exciter with Depeche Mode. Bell performed with Björk during her 2007 Volta tour.

Their last release as a duo was the album "Advance" in 1996. In 2003 Mark Bell resumed use of the name as a solo pseudonym.

-Rough Trade Germany which later became Zomba Records - uses the Warp catalogue number on releases that use the Warp label code (LC 2070) in addition to the RTD 126.XXXX.X catalogue number. Prior to this when the releases featured the RTD/Zomba labelcode (LC 5661) the Warp catalogue number did not appear.

LFO - Tied Up.

LFO are an English techno outfit on the Warp Records label. LFO were one of the pioneers of the bass-heavy techno music of the late 1980s to mid-'90s. Originally the band was comprised of Gez Varley, Martin Williams a.k.a. DJ Martin and Mark Bell. LFO is now Bell alone.

The band's name is derived from the abbreviation for the term low frequency oscillation, a synthesis technique widely used in electronic music

You can use an lfo set to random, to trigger a drum loop file in a zone, by way of the modulation page. I used four one measure loops and a micron for the synth bass.

This is some VJ stuff I did to the LFO song Freak. Starring Mr Hugues.

here in the video i did a simple patch using just the output of the ring modulator from the Cwejman vco-2rm, the Analogue Systems VCO controlled by the Analogue Systems LFO and on the other input is the Roland TR-606 drum machine, i really love the sound of the Cwejman ring modulator alone, no aditional effects were used, just the 3 eurorack modules and the tr-606.

The Cwejman VCO-2RM has two independent full featured VCOs and a ring modulator. It has internal connections for sync and linear frequency cross modulation, and are also pre patched to the ring modulator. All these connections go through normalized jacks, so external signals can also be used.
They deliver square and pulse waves, triangle, sine and four variants of ramp wave, each adding more over tones with a more nasal timbre. The VCOs can be switched to LFO mode and has both normal and inverted output.

They have a classic warm and fat VCO sound, not as harsh as the Doepfer, and not so muddy as the Analogue Systems.
It sounds so good that I don't automatically want to put them through in a filter to shape it. The PWM sound is extremely beefy. I can't guarantee the CV tracking all to the very top, but it sweeps from LFO to beyond the hearing level to somewhere around 22 KHZ.
Even at high modulation levels, it does not go into distortion, and keeping its warmth. That makes it a very good tool for FM sounds. The ring modulator is also a high quality unit. It sounds good, and accepts both AC and DC, making it useful as a VCA unit if needed.
On the downside, there are mainly two things. First, the waveform is determinate by a knob. I would have preferred to have them in separate outputs. The second is the lack of an octave switch.

TR-606
A cool little box! So primitive and cute! The 606 was the percussion side-kick to the TB-303. It even looks like the 303. It stores up to 32 patterns and 8 songs. The 606 allows switching between Pattern Play and Write mode while running - making the 606 the only drumcomputer in the X0X series that can be edited while performing and switching patterns. It is also possible to link up to 4 consecutive patterns in Pattern Play mode. There is only a mono audio output, however there are mods from Kenton Electronics and Analog Solutions that will add individual outputs for each drum tone.

The 606 has seven analog drum sounds which are simple, yet great! Kick, Snare, 2 toms, open hat, closed hat, cymbal, accent. The hi-hats are a very tinny electronic sound and its toms are great for soft tribal patterns. These seven sounds alone are still quite popular today, and the 606 has been used by Uberzone, Cirrus, Sneaker Pimps, Download, Aphex Twin, Astral Projection, Nine Inch Nails, Mr. Oizo, Jimi Tenor, Kid 606, OMD, Moby, Freddy Fresh, Autechre, Luke Vibert, Latinsizer, Nortec Collective and Union Jack.

For control, the 606 can receive or transmit DINSync for synchronization with other TR and TB family instruments. There are also two trig-outs on the unit, which make it very valuable as a pattern-programmable dual-channel trigger sequencer.
