RINGO by LORNE GREENE

Actor Lorne Greene enjoyed a brief recording career in the mid-'60s, when he was at the height of his popularity thanks to his role as Ben Cartwright on the long-running Western series Bonanza.
Greene released a total of five albums on from 1963-1966.

Geronimo (1829-1909), Native American, leader of the Chiricahua Apache tribe, born in present-day Clifton, Arizona. After his wife, children, and mother were killed by Mexicans in 1858, he participated in a number of raids against Mexican and American settlers, but eventually settled on a reservation. In 1876 the U.S. government attempted to move the Chiricahua from their traditional home to the San Carlos reservation; Geronimo then began ten years of intermittent raids against white settlements, alternating with periods of peaceful farming on the San Carlos reservation. In March 1886, the American general George Crook captured Geronimo and forced a treaty under which the Chiricahua would be relocated in Florida; two days later Geronimo escaped and continued his raids. General Nelson Miles then took over the pursuit of Geronimo, who was chased into Mexico and captured the following September. The Native Americans were sent to Florida, Alabama, and finally to Fort Sill, Oklahoma Territory, where they settled as farmers. Geronimo eventually adopted Christianity. He took part in the inaugural procession of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905. He died at Fort Sill on February 17, 1909.

At the beginning of his career, Worsley played four years in the minor leagues, most notably for the New York Rovers of the EHL, the St. Paul Saints of the USHL and the Saskatoon Quakers of the WHL. He achieved success with all three teams, garnering First Team All-Star and leading goaltender recognition for three straight seasons between 1950 and 1952.

In the fall of 1952 he was signed by the New York Rangers of the NHL, and though playing for a last place team, won the Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year. However, after asking for a $500 a year increase in pay, he was promptly returned to the minor leagues for the following season. Playing for the Vancouver Canucks of the WHL, he won the league most valuable player award in 1954.

He resumed position as starting goaltender for the Rangers in 1954, beating out future NHL star Johnny Bower. Wearing the traditional number 1 for goaltenders on his hockey sweater, he toiled for the oft-hapless Rangers for the next nine seasons, generally playing well for poor teams.

In the summer of 1963, he became involved in a proposed players' union, and was promptly traded to the Montreal Canadiens. While he was relegated to the minor-league Quebec Aces for parts of two seasons — and characteristically winning First Team All-Star honors in the AHL in 1964 — Worsley played his best years for the Habs as a member of four Stanley Cup-winning teams in 1965, 1966, 1968 and 1969. His best season was 1968, where he followed up a Vezina-winning performance and a career-low 1.98 goals against average by going undefeated in the playoffs with eleven straight wins. He quit in the midst of the 1969--70 season, feeling the pressure of performing in Montreal and being phased out in favor of younger goaltenders. He was suspended for not reporting to the Canadiens' Montreal Voyageurs farm team.

Worsley was lured out of retirement by the Minnesota North Stars, and playing in tandem with Cesare Maniago, starred for parts of five more years, retiring at the age of 44 after the 1973--74 season. His best season with the North Stars was 1972, where he was second in the league in goals against average with 2.12 and was named to play in the National Hockey League All-Star Game.

It was very surreal to me Boomers, to see Putin yukking it up with Bush at the Olympic Games in Beijing while his troops invaded Georgia. Used to be that leaders actually led their armies into battle, and didn't sit back with some popcorn and beach volleyball while innocents were slaughtered by their command. It makes me think that they should give out medals for war. Better yet, send the leaders directly to the front lines, and let us get the front row seats.

A friend's mother passed away recently, and while at the funeral, it got me thinking about the euphemisms we use for death. Look, right there I said passed away, instead of died. You never want to hear somebody died. Better to say they've left us. They've bought the farm. They've kicked the bucket. They've checked out, like life is a four star hotel, and now they've gone back to the great beyond after a couple of decades sunning here on planet Earth. When I go, try to make up a new euphemism so nobody feels too bad about it.

Don't click away Boomers, this show isn't actually about vaginas. It's just that whenever we do a racy show, we get a ton of viewers. Especially our Nudist episode, which has been viewed thousands of times on DailyMotion (though not YouTube, for some reason). Well I'm just here to tell you that despite your sick perversions, we here at the Boomer File will not be lowering our standards. Uh uh, no way. Not a bit. Well, maybe a little.

Boomers, I read recently that nude vacations, or "nakations" are surging in popularity. Apparently, nudism is the great equalizer; free of the sociological trappings of clothes, people are better able to relate to one another. I guess I can see that, but the problem I have with nudists is that most of them aren't very attractive. And neither am I. Just kidding, but I recently figured out the cost of a nakation with the Dreaded Mrs. Frohman. $135,000. Each. $5000 for the nude cruise, and $130,000 each for the pre-trip plastic surgery.

Today's episode of the Boomer File goes out to Hillary Clinton. We're sorry to hear you've finally dropped out of the race for the nomination, but we've got some ideas for you. Why not come to Canada and run for Prime Minister? We've already had a female PM, so that whole sexism thing is a non-issue. Plus, there's no telling how long you could hold onto power? Mackenzie King was in office for a total of 21 years, and we'd love to have you for even longer. Stay strong, Hillary, and consider our offer.

Laws are a good thing. Of course they are, they provide the backbone of our society, and set out consequences for terrible acts. But there are laws on the books around the world that are so outdated, offensive or downright ridiculous that it boggles the mind. Take a look and see for yourself.
