(June 16)On a rural road south of Modesto, California -- drivers stopped when they saw a horrific sight. A man - was severely kicking, beating and stomping a toddler to death. Several drivers stopped and called 911 SOT: modesto pd started responding to this call but the ground units were several minutes away from the scene Modesto authorities say a police helicopter happened to be in the area at the time of the attack.SOT: the pilot and the officer -- saw the assault in the air, and decided -- very risky landing. The officer approached the man, and authorities say he was forced to fire. The man died at the scene. The child was taken to the hospital, but later died. One witness says the suspect had been making comments about the child having 'demons' during the incident. Authorities say the toddler's injuries were so severe -- he will be identified through blood or DNA tests.
