Many Africans both within and beyond the continent are very religious. Their belief in God, the omnicient and omnipotent is beyond desription. One of the ways that the Akan people of Ghana worship God through their own cultural perspective is called AKOM. This and other cultural practices is resurfacing in the Americas thanks to the pioneering role of the late Okomfohene and Omanhene Nana Yaw Opare Dinizulu I. This video is a footage of the Nana Asuo Gyebi Akomkese held annualy by the OBAATANPA House of Hope International Ministry Inc at the International African Arts festival in Brooklyn.

Ghana's most popular contemporary music is called Highlife. The country adores its leading musicians for the relevance of the lyrics that sometimes makes comments, offer advice and gives hope to the desperate and the hopeless. Despite, global freedom in migration, most Ghanaians still find time to enjoy their country's music. This is footage of a 2007 Xmas bash that featured three of the Ghana's big time musicians, Eric Agyeman, Obouba Adofo and Kaakyire Kwame Appiah.
The popular music in Ghana is called Highlife, named after the high societal lifestyle of the middle class who enjoyed this type of music during the independent struggle in Ghana. Many musicians have made their mark and have released many albums for the listening and dancing pleasure of patrons. Obuoba J.A.Adofo is one of them and he performs for the Ghanaian community in New York City.
It is said to understand a culture of another community, begin with a study of their arts. This is true of Ghana's Africana Dance Company led by Sir Mawutor. This group based in Accra has performed for audiences of all levels from Pre-K to Phds. In this video, they perform a unique music from Volta region called Borborbor in its pure authenticity. The group is available for international engagements and festival. Contact Harold @ drumghana@yahoo.com for further details.
If you meet someone from Ghana, just ask the person if he/she knows where Mankessim is located? One thing that even most Ghanaians do not know is that there are three of the Mankessims in Ghana. There is Mankessim the Borbor, Gomua Mankessim and the old Mankessim in the Brong Ahafo region near Takyiman. This is a footage of the borborfantse Mankessim, famous for its market centre and the shrine. Want to visit Ghana, dont forget to visit the place, it is worth the experience.

Ghanaians are one community in Africa that pays special tribute and always organise befitting final funeral rites for the dead. One's social, economic, religious and political affiliation and other factors determines how one's funeral ceremony is organised. Among the occupational groups is the Musicians Union of Ghana, who organised a befitting passing ceremony for a colleague, Mr. Kojo Acquai in Accra, Ghana recently.
