Another Kate's song that I love, and I guess I'm not the only one to love it :)

You'll find me in a Berlin bar
In a corner, brooding
You know that I go very quiet
When I am listening to you
There's something special indeed
In all the places where I've seen you shine, boy
There's something very real in how I feel, honey
(Chorus)
It's in me, it's in me-and you know it's for real
Tuning in your saxophone
Doo-ba-doo-ba-doo
The candle is burning over your shoulder
Is throwing shadows on your saxophone
A surly lady in tremor
The stars that climb from her bowels
Those stars make towers on vowels
You'll never know that you had all of me
You'll never see the poetry you've stirred in me
Of all the stars I've seen that shine so brightly
I've never known or felt, in myself, so rightly
(Chorus)

Two bass saxophones, one Martin from 1921 and a Conn 14M Ladyface with rolled toneholes and keyed till high F.
In fact, the Martin also came out of the Conn factory, since Martin never made basses themselves. It is a stencil.
You will be able to hear the Martin in a medium swinging Blues and Conn in the Preacher.
There are also some parts of old historical recordings featuring bass saxophones in this Video.
Hear Coleman Hawkins in his best performance on Bass sax, Hop Off, the obscure version where Fletcher Henderson's tuba player didn't show up and Hawkins improvises his bass lines through the ensemble.
Also two fine contributions by Adrian Rollini, the ultimate bass sax meastro.
Part of Jazz Band Ball, with Bix Beiderbecke can be heard and his own composition: Dixie, dedicated to his wife, who had that name!
Bert Brandsma tells stories, introduces the saxophones and playes them!

The men of the Amstel have no fear, exclaimed the Dutch press about The Amstel Quartet, winner of the 2006 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. Its performances are riveting, filled with high energy, emotion and infectious dynamism. Its repertoire incorporates traditional works for saxophone quartet, contemporary compositions and interdisciplinary collaborations with dance, musical theatre and video.
In the 2008-09 season, the Quartet performs coast-to-coast with recitals at Merkin Concert Hall in NYC and the Orange County Performing Arts Center in California, as well as at venues in Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia and upstate New York. Recent highlights include NYC appearances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, on the Oath Concert for Darfur at the Angel Orensanz Foundation and at the Downtown NYC River to River Festival.

The Amstel Quartets latest CD, Amstel Peijl, is set for release on the CAG Records label in Fall 2008. The disc includes landmark saxophone quartets by Glass and Glazunov and an arrangement of a Fauré quintet with pianist Wijnand van Klaveren. The group has previously released four discs, including their successful debut CD, Straight Lines.Of this disc, one critic correctly claimed Straight Lines reflects the versatility of the saxophone quartet and how the instruments rich sound lends itself so successfully to various musical genres.

As part of CAGs New Music/New Places initiative, the Quartet has appeared in a special collaboration with video and dance at Monkeytown and on the Barbes Classical series at Barbes Bar and Performance Space, both in Brooklyn. The repertoire of the Amstel Quartet is original and inventive. From the mystery of Bachs Second Cello Suite in D to Michael Nymans music for the film The Piano, the four saxophonists unleash a palpable collective energy and gain fans with each performance. Composers, too, such as György Ligeti, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman and Arvo Pärt, have nothing but praise for the ingenious adaptations written by members of the Quartet.

In addition to its recent victory at the CAG Competition, the ensemble garnered top prizes at the International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach, France, the Netherlands Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition and Ohios Chamber Music in Yellow Springs Competition. The Amstel Quartet has been heard in venues around the world including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Vredenburg in the Utrecht, Sogukado Hall in Tokyo, Japan, the Stadtkirche in Darmstadt and toured Ireland, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Czech Republic.

Alex Gaudino feat. Crystal Waters - Destination Calabria
Who ever thought a marching band could be so hot – and sexual! Leave it to Ultra Records to make it steamy. “Destination Calabria,” the new single from Alex Gaudino featuring Crystal Waters, is a saxophone heavy song that will definitely get your butt shaking. If the song doesn’t send waves of rhythm through your body, the video will certainly get your heart pumping. You have girls in incredibly short skirts and panties that don’t cover much standing in lines – bending over rhythmically while their red-painted lips are closed around shiny, gold saxophones and trumpets. Their midriff-showing tops barely cover their bountiful chests as they wiggle around to the infectious beat. For more, head on over to http://www.ultrarecords.com/ and step into the music.

jazz saxophonist Tevet Sela / www.tevetsela.com
Tevet Sela is a virtuoso saxophonist and composer, and one of Israel's most prominent musicians. Over the last years, Tevet has been leading his own quartet, which exclusively performs his music.

In his repertoire, Tevet weaves together elements of soulful Jazz-funk with African and Middle Eastern music. Tevet's style of music came from him being exposed at an early age to the rich blend of cultures found in Israeli society, ranging from Jewish to North African music, and from Middle Eastern to Western music. This singular mix of influences characterizes Tevet's instantly recognizable and individual style.

Tevet, who is also a bassist, has an extraordinary sense of rhythm manifested by his ability to transform the saxophone into a rhythm instrument and to combine his tight rhythmic lines as an integral part of the rhythm section. This rhythmic approach, along with Tevet's song oriented compositions, makes for a complete and satisfying experience.

Tevet started playing classical piano at the age of 7. When he was 12 he began playing the saxophone and his interest in Jazz started to grow. At the age of 16 he started to compose his own music and began his professional musical career. Tevet soon became a much sought after session player, playing at the house bands of the most popular Israeli television shows as well as contributing solos for soundtracks and artists releases, both in Israel and abroad.

Tevet, who is also a graduate of the prestigious Thelma Yelin School of Arts, has toured in France and the Netherlands as it's big band featured soloist. In addition, Tevet holds a Diploma in music education, and has over the years won several scholarships of the America-Israel cultural fund.

Tevet has enjoyed the Israeli Foreign Ministry's endorsement on several projects such as representing Israel in an international UNICEF benefit concert. This concert was broadcasted from the Netherlands to 35 countries throughout the world and featured international artists such as: David Bowie, Des'ree, Youssou N'doure, Al Jarreau, and more..

In the year 2000 Tevet established his own band and started to record and perform his original compositions. In the spring of 2003 Tevet's debut album 'Tevet Sela' was released and followed by a tour in international jazz festivals and venues, both in Israel and abroad. Tevet's live concerts generate interest and enthusiasm by both European and Israeli audience. His music is frequently played by radio stations around the world including the BBC Radio, and leading Jazz stations in the USA. The Album is nominated for the 'jazz album of the year' and the 'jazz composition of the year' awards at the JPF Music Awards 2006.

"Tevet Sela Quartet presents an intelligent and skillful mix of classical harmonies with a Kleizmer influence and North-African rhythms...An intriguing concert for all who love innovative and exciting jazz"
Time Out, September 2006

"Tevet Sela will undoubtedly be one of the most influential saxophonists of the 21st century"

"I'm really impressed by the quality of composition and performance… his writing is adventurous… I couldn't help comparing his music with that of the Yellow Jackets".
Chris Mann, www.smooth-jazz.de , June 2005

"… Tevet Sela's music combines classical harmonies with a kleizmer influence and north-African rhythms, and it all blends into a sweet honey-like mixture with a bass-guitar touch. This musical mix is punctuated by Tevet's poignant saxophone, like a surprise chilli in strawberry jam, which doesn't overshadow its color yet keeps generating curiosity and fascination…"
